FEATURED FIGHT: Giovani Segura vs. Ivan Calderon. They?re only 108-pounders, but Mexico?s Segura (26-1-1, 22 KOs) knocked out the previously unbeaten Calderon (34-1-1, six KOs) in the eighth round of their first fight, an all-action slugfest Aug. 28 in Calderon?s native Puerto Rico that won The Ring?s “Fight of the Year” award for 2010. Their 12-round rematch for Segura?s WBO light flyweight title will headline a four-fight pay-per-view telecast Saturday from Mexicali, Mexico (9 p.m.; $39.95).
LOCAL LOOK: Garfield?s Tomas De La Cruz (178 pounds, subnovice division); Oradell?s William Panissidi (201-plus, subnovice); Passaic?s Justin Olmeda (123, open); Paterson residents Steven Hayer (141, novice) and Ashley Orr (152, novice); and Teaneck?s Rico Perry (152; subnovice) are scheduled to compete in New Jersey Golden Gloves semifinal matches Saturday at Kennedy High School in Paterson. THE FINAL BELL: “Fight Camp 360: Pacquiao vs. Mosley,” a four-part documentary-style series aimed at promoting the May 7 pay-per-view bout between Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) and Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs, one NC), will debut at noon Saturday on CBS. The second half-hour episode won?t air until April 23, but executives at CBS, owned by the same company as Showtime, wanted to maximize exposure of the welterweight title fight as far in advance as possible. Showtime will replay the first episode at 10 p.m. April 16.
