I recently spoke with boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. Big Floyd in a rather odd move went on the record and said that the 100 million dollars that his son Floyd Jr is asking for in order to fight Manny Pacquiao is, “Too much.” Big Floyd talked about the ailing economy, and how he thought 100 million dollars was just too much to ask for.
During my conversation, Big Floyd once again held firm with his opinion that Manny Pacquiao is using steroids. He also said , “If the lawsuit pushes through there definitely will not be a fight with my son and Manny Pacquiao.”
I asked Floyd Sr if he thought that the big fight would eventually happen, he responded, “It may be wishful thinking at this point. Both guys keep going up and up with things.”
Pacquiao filed a lawsuit for slander against the Mayweathers, and recent reports say that he’s fully planning on going forward with it.
Big Floyd yet again went after the Wild Card Gym, and coach Freddie Roach, implying that not only is Pacquiao taking steroids, but perhaps many at Wild Card Gym are taking steroids.
I will say this for the record, in my several trips to the Wild Card Gym, I have never seen anyone ever taking steroids.
When this writer brought up Amir Khan as a possible opponent for Floyd, Big Floyd said, “He is out of the same place Pacquiao is out of. He may not be right either. Freddie the dope coach Roach, that’s all I have to say on that.”
It seems that with each time I speak with Big Floyd, he jumps at his chance to take swipes at Freddie Roach. At the end of the day however, it’s Freddie Roach banking the cash, and working the corner of the pound for pound king. When you are the king of the hill, everybody wants to try to knock you off of it. Right now? Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao are two kings standing at the top of the hill.
Mississippians that I have spoken with concerning Manny Pacquiao and steroids for the most part do not feel as if Manny is on the juice. That’s not the case with all though. I spoke with an old school boxing trainer name Johnny Powell last weekend. Mr Powell has trained 14 world champions in his day. Ray Mercer and Pinklon Thomas to name a few. Mr Powell has his hunch on Pacquiao, “I think he may be using something. Who comes up from 106 and knocks out Jr middleweights?”
Showtime’s boxing expert Al Bernstein disagrees. Bernstein said it like this, “Steroids do not enhance your technique. Pacquiao has not gotten stronger so much, he’s just worked on his technique, and that’s why he’s knocking people out. i don’t think it’s steroids.”
Big Floyd and Little Floyd firmly believe that Manny is using. Or do they? Perhaps Sr does, but Jr? When you ask for 100 million dollars to fight Pacquiao, maybe what he’s really saying is, ” HELL no I don’t want to fight that guy!”
