Yes, Shane Donte Mosley just did that, my headline is not misleading.
The “T” stands for “Twitter” and not “Technical” and Mosley is still in there swinging on Twitter while Pacquiao has packed it in after some msiadventures on the social messaging site.
Even in today’s hyperspeedy world of instant social messaging, I think this is historically signifcant.
I just got a breathless announcement from some former associates of Hollywood Charlie Sheen about how Sugar Shane Mosley, whose tiger blood was not evident when he struggled to a desultory draw against a Latin Snake named Sergio Mora, is “winning” with his own special Twitter account.
Ad.ly is the name of the outfit that is promoting Mosley’s 140 characters maximum messages from now through his May 7 Las Vegas bout against Congressman Pacquiao.
Ironically, the Mosley account was being circulated across the Internet just hours after ABS-CBN in the Philippines broke the news that Pacman had junked his Twitter activity.
The Righteous Rep from Sarangani Province was stung by some who criticized his form and grammar in his Twitter messaging.
Then Pacman, whose political advisers may be Moe, Larry, Curley and perhaps even Curley Joe (stooges all) tweeted some inane remark about how about a political trial going on in his homeland was “very interesting.”
No, the contest of that tweet, my twerps, is innocuous but the reaction was negative and I can see why.
Politicians, other than a shameless self promoter like Sarah Palin, should not be sending out tweets.
It’s undignified, it demeans their office.
I mean, what’s next, President Obama tweeting like so:
“Just bombed Daffy Ghadaffy to kingdom come, had a blast, lol.”
Or maybe: “Michelle hovering over me, can’t really eyeball these awesome Brazilian chicks in the dental floss bathing suits on Ipanema.”
So Pacquiao has quit Twitter and now he’s no half-twit.
But the sun will rise manana and we still have Sugar Shane’s tweets to look forward to. Maybe he and ex-wife Jin will start ripping each other for our amusement.
Or maybe Shane will start laying into Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his Man Friday, 50 Centavos. Mosley can get some Twitter tips from the hyperactive Rachel and Nonito Donaire Jr., that is for sure.
Come to think of it, Mosley’s had so many memorable quotes over his long career.
For example, I recall, “I thought BALCO stood for Bay Area Luncheon Company when I first met Victor Conte.”
And, when he kicked his Golden Boys Oscar and Richard to the corporate curb, Mosley said, “I’m leaving this to Bernard Hopkins, they like him better anyway.”
So Twitter gained Mosley and lost Pacquiao.
I hesitate to praise a fighter for throwing in the towel but this is addition by subtraction for Manny.
Unless Obama and President Aquino take to Twitter, Pacquiao’s made the right call.
That blue bird of paradise, or whatever’s Twitter’s symbol is, could have flown right up Manny’s nose.
Sounds like an Alfredo Hitchcock thriller, “Birds Bombard Baguio.”
