Vanes ?The Nightmare? Martirosyan continues his quest for greatness on March 19th when he will face Bladimir Hernandez (18-4 16 KOs) on the undercard of Lucian Bute versus Brian Magee in Montreal, Canada.
Perhaps the worst nightmare for the undefeated light middleweight is not having the opportunity to jump in the ring with an opponent worthy enough to earn him the big belt he has passionately sought for years.
Working under the guidance of Freddie Roach, the 28-0 Martirosyian has learned not to take any opponent lightly and is sparring top notch partners at Roach?s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA. Daniel Jacobs (22-1, 19KOs), who won via 1st round knockout on Saturday, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (23-0, 17KOs) and Roberto Garcia (28-3, 21KOs) are just a few of the upper echelon fighters that Vanes banged leather with on regular basis.
“There is always great sparring at Wild Card. I feel like every sparring session is like being in another fight because everyone is good and its real tough, hard sparring,” Martirosyan stated.
If you ask Freddie Roach what?s ahead for his young prospect he will most likely tell you that the Hernandez fight is the only sight he immediately views threw his legendary bi focal. While checking a Hernandez defeat of the hit list is the next step for Martirosyan, he already has a plan in place to take on Saul Roman (34-8, 29KOs) for the WBC silver belt on April 23rd. The victor in this match will place the winner in the #1 mandatory spot to face WBC champion Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez (36-0-1, 26KO?s). Alvarez is fresh off a lopsided whipping of Matthew Hatton in front of 1.4 million HBO viewers, which was the highest rated Boxing After Dark card in the past two years. The 20-year-old is already eyeing his first title defense slated for June.
It looks as if the planets may be aligning for a major ?wake up? call in the light middleweight division. It?s the call that ?the nightmare? has been patiently waiting for and most certainly deserves if he can successfully dismantle his two next opponents.
