The man they call Maravilla- All I can say at this point is, WOW! This past weekend as I was watching Sergio Martinez do his thing as he dominated and stopped Dzinziruk in the 8th round, I was amazed at how dominant Martinez was with that jab of his. Before the fight it was said that Dzinziruk would be the one to employ the jab more and use it as his primary weapon. That however, was not the case. Maybe Martinez simply moved way too much for Dzinziruk to be able to land his jab consistently. Maybe Martinez?s counters forced Dzinziruk into another method. Maybe Martinez is just that good. I got to be honest with you when I say this, and that is that at this point the only fighter that would beat or come close to beating Martinez between 147-160 is Manny Pacquiao. Many can say that Floyd Mayweather also would have a shot, but I disagree, especially if Martinez uses his jab as good as he did last Saturday night. Martinez right now is just in a zone. Before last Saturday night, I mentioned that Martinez should fight Cotto next, I no longer feel that way. Cotto would get beaten badly by Martinez at this particular time.
Cotto stops Mayorga late- It was a good back and forth clash with Cotto being the one to land more. But that was to be expected. To me what was un expected was that Maorga was able to last more than 9 rounds. Even though Cotto looked good, he should have still been able to look better and should have stopped Mayorga a few rounds earlier. Cotto will now go on to face Antonio Margarito sometime in July, most likely in New Jersey or New York, assuming that they grant Margarito his license. I got to tell you, if Margarito recovered from the beating Pac-man gave him, and if the in shape Margarito that showed up for Pac-man shows up come July, Cotto better bring his A game with him. Or else, it will be a long long night for Cotto. Cotto will need to go hard at Margarito?s body and jab Margarito to death and keep Margarito backing up in order to find success. Does Cotto have one more good fight left in him? We shall see.
