Argentinian middlewight and world class boxer Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez will square off with undefeated Ukranian Serhiy Dzinziruk on Saturday night, but the best man in a barren division is still dreaming of bigger fights.
“None of my fights have been easy,” said Martinez. “I want to fight the best, but for right now I have got to knock-out Dzinziruk, and thats what will happen on Saturday night.”
Martinez – Dzinziruk will be aired in the United States by premium cable network HBO.
So if Dzinsiruk is not a big enough fish to fry, who does Martinez have in his sights?
“I would like to fight Floyd Mayweather Junior, or Manny Pacquiao,” answered Martinez. “Unfortunatley, neither seem too interested in fighting me.”
Martinez, 36 years of age, may be looking for big paydays to pad his post-boxing pension, but men like Mayweather and Pacquiao are smaller and unlikely to scale the middleweight or junior middleweight limits anytime soon – especially for a gifted fighter and dangerous foe such as Martinez.
With few options available for multi-million dollar affairs, Martinez would be well served to focus on the task at hand.
