ALA Promotions, the handler of promising bantamweight prospect AJ Banal, wants their ward to train alongside the current best bantamweight?World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight king Nonito Donaire Jr.
?We want to focus on his training. We want him to train abroad and get exposed there.
There is a possibility that he will be training with Donaire under Roberto Garcia,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Last Oct. 30, Banal dominated his fight with former world champion Luis Alberto Perez but the Cebuano youngster didn?t get the ending he wanted. The fight ended with a seventh round disqualification in favor of Banal, after Perez hit him with an illegal punch.
Aldeguer said that they aren?t keen on a rematch with Perez but are looking to improve Banal?s skills by training with Donaire Jr., who stopped Fernando Montiel in two rounds
?I haven?t talked with Robert yet but Nonito?s a good friend. He has trained in the ALA Gym. Nonito?s a bantamweight and so is AJ. He?ll learn a lot from Nonito,? said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer believes Banal is bursting with potential and at 22will still improve. ?He is one of the most talented guys. We are just waiting for the right time. He needs more exposure,? said Aldeguer.
