Much has been written regarding the rift between two of boxing?s most powerful boxing promotional firms – Top Rank Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
The barbs exchanged by Golden Boy?s Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer, and Top Rank?s headman Bob Arum are the subject of weekly Internet boxing headlines.
Recently Oscar De La Hoya posted the following comments on his Twitter account…
?Here we go again with senile arum talking smack again.anyway I’m in the boxing Business as he’s in the top rank business so mind your own.?
During a an appearance on internationally broadcast radio show – The Boxing Truth, Arum informed listeners on his stance regarding his feud with Golden Boy Promotions.
?I cannot be responsible for the comments Oscar makes,? said Arum. ?I have very little respect for him as a person and if you want to know, I am extremely angry at both Oscar and Richard Schaefer for the defamatory statements regarding Manny Pacquiao and has caused Manny Pacquiao to sue him.?
Pacquiao has filed legal motions to sue De La Hoya, Schaefer, Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions for public allegations that the Filipino star has used performing enhancing drugs during the course of his historic rise to fistic power.
Arum stated during his appearance on The Boxing Truth, that his rivalry with Golden Boy is now personal due to the friendship he has made with Pacquiao.
?I look at Manny as my friend and if you attempt to hurt my friend, I have no use for you. I will do anything I can to get back to you. This has nothing to with business, or that Oscar was once my fighter, that is all irrelevant. It has all to do with what they do to try hurt the reputation of my friend Manny Pacquiao?
The bad news for boxing fans is that these very personal rift between America?s two largest promoters will block several fan-pleasing bouts until the conflict resolves itself.
