Pacquiao braces for tough showdown with Mosley

MANILA, Philippines – In between handing out trophies to four Filipino athletes who shone bright in 2010, Manny Pacquiao said he remains wary of what he will encounter when he faces Shane Mosley on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Mahirap na,” said Pacquiao late Saturday night during the Philippine Sportswriters Association awards night at the Manila Hotel where he was mobbed by the media, athletes, and sports leaders after delivering a short speech.

Pacquiao said he had actually did the punch mitts routine earlier in the day while in General Santos City, just hours before he boarded a commercial flight to Manila to attend the PSA affair.

“Hindi mo masabi ang boksing. Dapat handa ka kasi siguradong handang-handa si Mosley sa laban namin,” said the 32-year-old Pacquiao.

Pacquiao started to warm up for the eight-week training camp by running in the morning and playing basketball in the afternoon last week as he eagerly awaits the arrival of trainer Freddie Roach and sparring partners Shawn Porter and David Rodela.

Next week, Pacquiao is scheduled to go up to Baguio City and the pound-for-pound king wants to make sure he would be in some short of shape by the time Roach presides in the gymwork at the Cooyeesan Hotel, the site of his training camp while in the Philippines.
