World flyweight contender Richie Mepranum is reportedly getting another shot at the World Boxing Organization flyweight title in April when he seeks revenge against Julio Cesar Miranda, according to sources.
Mepranum lost via fifth round stoppage to Miranda for the vacant WBO flyweight title in Mexico last year due in part to lack of preparation.
His camp was notified of the fight just three weeks before the schedule bout.
Mepranum went down once in the fourth round and twice in the fifth round for the only stoppage loss of his career.
His other loss was a controversial hometown decision to Denkaosan Kaovichit in Ratchaburi, Thailand in 2007.
Mepranum, who has impressed boxing aficionados in the US for his sleek boxing style, bounced back from that defeat to earn a split decision victory in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Margarito welterweight fight.
Sources said he and Miranda will headline the fight card in Las Vegas a week before Manny Pacquiao takes on Shane Mosley.
Pacquiao will defend his welterweight title against Mosley at the Mandalay Bay Reost and Casino on May 7.
It will be Mepranum?s sixth fight since winning the WBO oriental flyweight crown against Juma Fundi.
The Maasim, Sarangani resident holds a 23-win and two-loss record while drawing one.
He owns a win over reigning flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes whom he outpointed in 2007.
His manager, former Maasim Mayor Jojo Lopez said they are still awaiting confirmation of the fight deal.
He said this could be the last chance for his ward to capture a world title.
Miranda is a veteran of 40 fights winning 34 but also losing five. Twenty seven of his victories ended in stoppage.
