Lady Justice is supposed to be blind, not dumb.
You may think that, as genius Lenny Bruce once said, “at the Halls of Justice, the only justice is in the halls.”
But, in the pointed pending cases of Lindsay Lohan and Floyd Mayweather, one in LA and the other in Las Vegas, it’s more than likely that both big-time, wealthy celebrities will get the same criminal case disposition that a defendant named Fred Smith or Mary Jones would get.
What would be dumb, not to mention unfair, is to hold either Lohan or Mayweather to a standard different than the run of the mill defendant facing similar charges.
“If you plead in front of me, if this case is resolved in front of me, you’re going to jail,” Judge Keith Schwartz told the out of control actress Wednesday. “Period.”
Lohan is in a different position than Mayweather with his Josie Harris “Baby Mama Drama’ case. You see, Lohan is on probation while the fighter, who turns age 34 Thursday, is not.
Now charged with swiping a $2,500 necklace, Lohan is looking at jail time due to her 2007 drunk driving conviction and the result probation. A person on probation or parole does not have the same legal leverage some who does not may have.
But Schwartz made one comment that is applicable to Mayweather.
“I want you to get on with your life,” the LA Superior Court Judge said.
Mayweather, a decade older than Lohan, may hear the same pitch from LV Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa during a March 10 preliminary hearing on felony case 10F17453X.
JP’s in Vegas typically earn from $128,700 to $154,440, so Saragosa will be presiding a case over a multimillionaire just as Schwartz is doing in sunny California. (Salary source, LV Sun, Feb. 17, 2008.)
Lohan may minimize her jail stint by accepting a guilty plea now because, if she goes to trial and loses, her prison time exposure will lengthen.
Mayweather is all but certain to walk out of court with a no jail plea, a mixture of domestic violence classes, community service and a small fine.
Maybe he and Uncle Roger, who just took a similar plea, can be classmates at the Don’t Hit Women School.
For once in his life, it’s time for Mayweather to throw in the towel.
Lohan is young, dumb and a substance abuser.
Happy birthday, Floyd Joy, but what’s your excuse?
Time to put aside childish things and move on.
As long as Saragosa treats “Money” Mayweather, who can bring millions of dollars into the city especially if he fights Manny Pacquiao, the same as a Jones or a Smith, then no one can beef.
Lady Justice is supposed to be blind and, in both the Lohan and Mayweather cases, I can’t see Judge Schwartz or Judge Saragosa being stupid.
Stupid people sometimes become judges but it is rare.
