FIL-AM boxing champion Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton tries to make the country even prouder when she stakes her World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight title against American Franchesca Alcanter this Friday (Saturday in Manila) in California.
The 10-round championship bout dubbed “The Return of the Hurricane” will be beamed live from the Craneway Pavilion, Point Richmond in California simultaneously over TV5 and Aksyon TV 41 from noon to 2 p.m.
The fight marks the first major sports offering of Channel 41, the newly-launched sports and news channel of TV5.
Boxing fans in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao can also watch the fight live over Channel 29 of the Kapatid Network?s provincial station.
Julaton?s defense of her 122-pound title comes almost a week after Nonito Donaire Jr. scored a spectacular second round technical knockout of Mexican Fernando Montiel to wrest the World Boxing Council and WBO bantamweight crowns at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I?m ready to go especially after going through the hardest training camp I ever had,” declared Julaton, 30, who prepared for the fight for about a month under the watchful eyes of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, with former World Boxing Council light-flyweight champion Rodel Mayol as her regular sparring partner at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.
Both fighters are scheduled to appear in the final press conference on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) at the Mink Lounge in Daly City.
Sporting a 7-2-1 record, Julaton is confident she would keep the WBO title she won last July with a split decision over Mexican Maria Elena Villalobos.
