MANILA, Philippines–Malaca?ang on Sunday congratulated Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire Jr., for winning the WBC-WBO bantamweight belt from defending champion Fernando Montiel.
“It’s another feather on the cap of our boxers. Thank you for the honor,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in reaction to Donaire’s second round knockout win on Montiel.
Interviewed over government radio dzRB, Valte said she did not know whether President Benigno Aquino III watched the fight but she added that the Chief Executive would be informed right away because his officials give him updates on sports matches like this.
