Just eight days after Nonito Donaire?s breakthrough appearance on one of the most important sports television shows in the Bay Area, South San Francisco?s Ana Julaton appeared on the same program Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Donaire, who is in Las Vegas for his bantamweight showdown Saturday with Fernando Montiel, has been featured in two prominent newspaper stories this week.
The San Francisco Chronicle had a takeout story about Nonito on its sports cover page Tuesday.
And in Wednesday editions, popular Oakland Tribune columnist Monte Poole, whose work also appears in large sister papers, the San Jose Mercury News and the Contra Costa Times, wrote about Donaire?s tribulations with his father and other family members since his marriage to Rachel Marcial in 2008.
Not that the stories got everything right. The Chronicle story, for instance, referred to Nonito?s wife as ?Rachelle.?
Interviewing Julaton (7-2-1), who fights in Richmond on Feb. 25 against Franchesca Alcanter (18-9), Chronicle Live host Greg Papa seemed to know a little bit about Julaton?s relationship with Manny Pacquiao, but he knew less about Pacquiao than I would have thought. He asked Julaton ? who looked fabulous, of course — whether it?s true Pacquiao ?has talked about running for public office.? He ran successfully for congress last year, as everyone reading this already knows.
Still, the campaign to make Donaire ? and Julaton ? better known in the Bay Area is a crucial one that has increased greatly in magnitude this month
