FORMER WBC Junior Lightweight champion Rolando Navarrete was impressed by the performance of WBC Super Featherweight International champion Manny Pacquiao during his rematch against Mexican boxing legend Erik Morales.
Likewise, he is asking Manny’s help to convince city officials to give back his monthly honorarium.
Early this week, reporters saw Navarrete training at the dilapidated boxing gym near the former Reyes Terminal.
Navarrete, who earned the moniker “Bad Boy from Dadiangas” for his wayward tendencies, continues to hope he could fight again atop the ring.
He described the Pacquiao-Morales fight as “Perfect. It was a superb fight.”
Lando brought honor and pride to the country sometime in 1981 when he wrested the World Boxing Council Junior Lightweight crown from Cornellius Boza Edwards.
However, his reign in the junior lightweight division was short lived due to career miscues and profligacy.
Lando said he would ask for a tip or “balato” when the new Filipino boxing sensation arrives in the city.
The former boxing champion said he would also ask Pacquiao to convince the local officials to give back his honorarium.
The City Government stopped giving him honorarium due to his abusive tendencies.
He had inflicted bodily harm on some City hall employees, one of them even collapsed after being hit by the Bad Boy’s punch.
Lando is now virtually a nuisance inside the City Hall, as he would usually claim his salary long before the scheduled date of release.
