WBO Prez blasts WBC move

WBO president Francisco ?Paco? Valc?rcel reacted today to the highly publicized vacancy of the WBC 154-pound title previously held by Manny Pacquiao. ?Unfortunately, we have to clarify that the WBC words about the removal of Pacquiao?s title are not true, because Pacquiao said after he won the 154-pound title that he will not fight in the junior middleweight division and came back to 147 pounds,? Valc?rcel said. ?Pacquiao remains as the WBO welter champion and is going to defend his title next May 7 against Shane Mosley in Las Vegas. Pacquiao?s figure deserves more respect.?

Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) won the WBC 154-pound title when he beat Antonio Margarito last November 2010. However, Pacman also is the current WBO welterweight champion, having won the belt in November of 2009 dethroning Miguel Cotto and defending it against Joshua Clottey in March 2010. ?I want to say that the WBC should be more careful because with these words of the alleged removal and vacancy of Pacquiao?s title, which is hard on their credibility. They did the same thing with Timothy Bradley, our 140-pound champion, when Bradley sent a letter to tell them that he didn?t want to fight for the WBC title,? Valcarcel stated.
