Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire Jr.- This clash will take place in 2 weeks and I can not wait. Fights such as this is what our sport truly needs. I feel that this fight sells on paper and also sells in the ring because both fighters bring an entertaining style with them. Montiel is like a termite that strikes and strikes because he realizes that each strike is fatal. Donaire is like a python in there, Donaire circles the center and then surprises you with something vicious. Fight fans need to wake up because this fight is the truth, nothing but the truth. I know that this is called my wish list, and well this fight is already about to take place, but I had to just write about it because I am really hyped for this fight. I like both fighters, but I favor Donaire because I see something that many out there seem to be be missing. And that is that Nonito Donaire is a flash of genius. Truly remarkable!
Abner Mares vs. Nonito Donaire Jr.- In case you all have not caught on yet, I am a big Nonito Donaire fan. In saying that, I feel that Donaire can beat just about anyone at 115 or 118. Only real threats for Donaire are Montiel, Anselmo Moreno, and Abner Mares. Montiel is a threat because of his intensity. Moreno is a threat because of his slickness, and Mares is a threat because of his overall heart, skill, and will. If Mares can get past Agbeko, and if Donaire can get past Montiel, it is a no brainer that Mares vs. Donaire should then take place for later this year.
Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa- Enough with the build up already..let?s see this fight go down this year. Last year I would have went with Lopez, even after his scare against Mtagwa. This year, I am leaning towards Gamboa. On a side note, I feel that Gamboa?s handlers are missing the boat here. Gamboa should be working with Freddie Roach so that Roach can turn this monster into Godzilla.
Timothy Bradley vs. Amir Khan- Both of these fighters should not be even thinking Pacquiao or Mayweather until facing one another first. This is the real ?Super Fight? at 140. The winner of this if moved right can establish themselves as the next pay per view attraction.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.- I know that it?s looking like a far cry, but I am wishing that this Mega Fight take place in September or November.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Andre Berto- If the Mega Fight can not be made between Manny and Floyd, I would like to see Pacquiao/Berto in November.
Andre Berto vs. the winner of Bradley/Khan- Knowing Berto?s brain trust, Berto would most likely be more open to fighting guys moving up to 147 opposed to fighting a killer like Pacquiao or a ring general like Mayweather.
Andre Berto vs. Miguel Cotto- Yeah Berto, like it or not, I want to see you in a big fight this year. It?s time we pick you up off the sand and drop you off deep into the ocean. Will he swim or drown? Fight would most likely have to take place at a catch-weight between 147-154, Al Haymon is smart enough to not allow Berto to fight Cotto at 154.
Sergio Martinez vs. Miguel Cotto- This will make for a very fun fight. Maravilla versus the Caguas Crusher. Let?s get it!
Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch- Can the Cobra find a way to out smart one of the most complete fighters fighting today? Since 2008, very few have faced the strong competition that Froch has faced. Froch is a born fighter, but Ward is the type of fighter that I see as being able to adjust to any style that you throw at him. If Ward can beat Abraham, and Froch can beat Johnson, you know the rest.
Lucian Bute vs. the winner of Ward/Froch- The set is stage, the crowd awaits, take your seats, it?s Showtime!
Any Klitschko vs. David Haye- No more talking, enough of the charades. Let?s bring some excitement and heat into a very cold division. May the mouth rest, and the fist fly.
I also would like to see Adamek vs. Cunningham 2, the much anticipated rematch. Back in 2008, this fight was very electric. I know that Adamek is in talks with fighting a Klitschko for later this year, but come on, who are we kidding? Either Klitschko will smash Adamek. I?m sure that Steve Cunningham will have no problem moving up to fry bigger fish. I feel that with Naazim Richardson in Cunningham?s corner and with Cunningham?s speed and boxing ability, that Cunningham can make the right adjustments and beat Adamek. Another good one would be Cunningham vs. David Haye, another battle between 2 former cruisers.
Also, if I?m Golden Boy rather than feeding Victor Ortiz to Berto, I would look into taking a page out of the Arum book and keep it all in house. Put Ortiz up against Juan Manuel Marquez, Amir Khan, or do the rematch against Maidana. It may be risky but I would pick the rematch with Maidana, I mean if you are even thinking of placing Ortiz in with Berto then it would be much wiser to keep the entire pot and see if Ortiz can pull the thorn out of his side and put him in against Maidana. Since Khan is currently looking for a date, I would also like to see Khan pull the thorn out of his side and face Prescott again. And for Jorge Linares to do the same and face Juan Carlos Salgado again. Speaking of Linares, I would also love to see him face Robert Guerrero at 135. I want to also see Saul Alvarez versus Alfredo Angulo Live from Mexico in front of at least 70,000.. Golden Boy has a lot of pieces that it can play with?Let?s not forget the return of James Kirkland, Kirkland brings a body bag with him. Kirkland is ferocious.
