Anthony Jones of El Dorado died at a Little Rock hospital on Sunday morning. On Saturday night, the 28 year old heavyweight made his professional debut in the event billed as “The Benton Beatdown”, which was held at Fitness Unlimited of Benton.
Quincy Palmer of Little Rock knocked Jones down in the second round, at which time referee Martin Tunstall of Sheridan stopped the fight. Jones was then taken to the UAMS medical center.
“It was just an untimely and unfortunate accident for him,” said Promoter Larry Harris in a statement to Troy Schulte of Arkansas Online.
Jones’ body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed.
