An “O” must go when World Boxing Council junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs, Saint Louis) and World Boxing Organization king Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs, Palm Springs) square-off Saturday night at the Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan.
The oddsmakers have Bradley nearly a two to one betting favorite going into the fight, even thought the Palm Springs native has suffered a bout with the flu in recent weeks.
A knock-out is unlikely as neither man is known for heavy hands, but the duel has been highly awaited amoung hardcore boxing fans.
Friday afternoon, Bradley tipped the scales at 139 pounds and Alexander came in at the exact limit of 140 pound for a bout between two men who have never tasted defeat.
Logic would tell us that the odds favor Bradley after Alexander struggled and received a suspect hometown decision in August, 2010 against Andriy Kotelnik. Bradley himself had a less than impressive performance in July against Luis Carlos Abregu which ended in a decision victory.
Bradley has fought the more established world class opposition, with names such as Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell, and Edner Cherry lining his resume.
Alexander’s biggest accomplishment to date was a stunning knock-out victory against Columbian Juan Urango – a man who had never been knocked out before.
The action between Alexander and Bradley will be carried by HBO within the United States.
