I didn’t pay for the PPV event between Evander Holyfield and Sherman Williams. I spent my Saturday evening watching the UFC on Spike TV, the event that raised money for our injured troops. I had a bad feeling about the Holyfield fight when I watched the former world champ working out in the ring up in NYC last week, he looked slow and he looked old.
Holyfield from what I have read on ESPN and from Dan Rafael’s very entertaining Twitter updates looked terrible. Rafael’s Twitter updates were probably more entertaining than the card itself.
I have been a big supporter of Evander of the years, and on a personal level I remain a supporter. I have had several conversations both in person and over the phone with the former champ, and I like the guy. I won’t spend a lot of time bashing the guy and plastering negative headlines about the man, but I must say that now is the time for Evander to hang up the gloves and call it a career.
He has nothing to prove, his career speaks for itself and no matter what some other morons on the Internet say about him, he is a good person. Is he a perfect person? No of course not, but I guarantee you that the people that sit around at their keyboards in redneck-ville and blast him for his personal issues have a closet filled with personal embarrassments that they have nailed shut.
Winning a 5th world heavyweight title isn’t in the cards for Holyfield. His chance to grab his 5 title was snatched away from him when he clearly defeated the big 7 foot Valuev. That was his chance and it was taken from him. Holyfield at this point with each entrance into the ring does damage to his legacy. It’s time for “The Real Deal” to get real and take a final bow.
