The May 7th Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight hasn?t exactly been welcomed with open arms but the simple fact that so many people are talking about a fight that is still well over three months away speaks of the magnitude of the event. Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight crown against his foe from Pomona, California in what is unquestionably the biggest card of the year thus far.
Recently, BoxingScene?s Robert Morales revealed that the official press tour to announce the fight will kick off on February 10th in Los Angeles. Other locales will include Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. While the competitiveness of the fight may be in question, this surely isn?t a matchup lacking in exposure.

Pacquiao was recently said to have told his promoter Bob Arum that he feels he is up to fighting six more times before calling it a day, with the Mosley bout being the first in the lot. A fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the most desired amongst fans and insiders but outside of the undefeated stalwart there lies an interesting mix of rising stars, dangerous veterans and solid champions.
Mayweather linked to heavyweight Kevin Johnson
Trainer Jeff Mayweather has bounced back pretty well after seeing his charge Celestino Caballero lose a shock split-decision last November to always-game Jason Litzau. The former two-time champion from Panama was a clear favorite to defeat the Minnesota-based fighter but appeared lackadaisical throughout the contest, with Mayweather even noting that slight errors were made during training that could have affected his performance.
Outside of Caballero, Mayweather works with a bevy of young talent in the Las Vegas area including undefeated middleweight Brandon Gonzales, welterweight prospect Chase Corbin, junior lightweight Mickey Bey Jr., and former heavyweight champion Samuel Peter, amongst others. Mayweather told me earlier tonight that another interesting name could be added to the mix in form of former heavyweight title challenger. Kevin ?Kingpin? Johnson.
Johnson is extremely talented for a heavyweight but it is his disappointing decision loss to Vitali Klitschko in late 2009 that had thus far defined his potential. Mayweather said the 31-year old reached out to him Facebook and the trainer welcomed the new endeavor. Johnson is scheduled to next see action on January 22nd in West Virginia against Julius Long.
