RISING welterweight prospect Mark Jason Melligen looked trim and ready when he sparred with ALA stablemate Jason Pagara last Saturday at the Park Mall in Mandaue City.
But he was visibly disappointed asked about the proposed rematch with Michel Rosales of Mexico, which once again did not push through.
?I guess he doesn?t want to fight me.? Melligen said. He also said that he will leave possibly on Jan. 15 to continue to train in Las Vegas with trainer Tony Martin.
Melligen lost to Rosales by split decision in 2009 in the undercard of the ill fated Z Gorres-Luis Melendez fight in Las Vegas.
Melligen lost his focus after Gorres collapsed at the end of his fight and wants to fight Rosales again without any distractions.
Melligen (20W-2L, 14 KOs) will fight another Mexican, Gabriel ?El Rey? Martinez in the undercard of the WBC/WBO bantamweight title fight between Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire and champion Fernando Montiel in Las Vegas on Feb. 19.
This will be another big break for Melligen when he appears in this highly anticipated superfight to be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Martinez (27W-1L-1D, 14 KOs) is not an easy opponent, having faced the likes of Saul Alvarez and Jesus Soto-Karass.
