Earlier today WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel touched down in Las Vegas, Nevada for the inagural press conference to announce his February 19th clash with former flyweight titlist Nonito Donaire. The two ultra-talented stylists will meet at the Mandalay Bay in one of the year?s most anticipated duels with HBO televising the proceedings.
A year ago at this time both men were in Las Vegas at the Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13 press conference but at that time they were awaiting the challenge of differing opposition. Montiel would end up blitzing out Ciso Morales in one round with a wicked body shot while Donaire would blast out overmatched Manuel Vargas in three heats. Even then you could sense the magnitude of a potential bout between the two men and their fight is just around the corner.
Last month Donaire did his part in helping make the contest a reality by blowing out Ukrainian Wladimir Sidorenko in Anaheim, California. Six days later Montiel tore through journeyman Giovanni Soto inside of two rounds in Saltillo, Mexico and the war of words officially began. A follow-up press conference will take place tomorrow in Los Angeles, California.
