Brandon Gonzales will seek to continue his flawless record as he enters the ring on January 7 to face off with Lester Gonzalez (11-1-1, 6 KOs). The latter suffered his only loss at the hands of Chris Chatman on November 18 of last year, while Brandon Gonzales holds a professional record of 13-0, with 10 KOs.
Gonzales has already begun to make waves in the world of professional boxing. The 26 year old middleweight prospect, who didn’t begin his amateur boxing career until the age of 19, was ranked number 1 in the light heavyweight division by the time he was 20. He then moved on to make his pro debut in February of 2007.
His last battle saw him squaring off with Byron Tyson who held a record of 9-1-2, with 4 KOs at the time of their meeting. Tyson was dropped by a hard jab in the first round. In the second round, Gonzales opened up a bad cut under the right eye of his Tyson. He then committed to a brutal body attack that further damaged his opponent. Gonzales continued his assault until round three, when Tyson’s corner men stepped onto the ring apron to stop the assault, and protect their fighter from further damage.
“I guess his performance can be best described as his ring name, Flawless,” said trainer Jeff Mayweather. “He took apart Buddy Tyson round after round.”
Mayweather has expressed a great deal of confidence in the young pugilist, even going so far as to say that he feels that Gonzales possesses the work ethic and skills of a future world champion.
Gonzales has acknowledged the importance of a strong work ethic and immaculate preparation, as he strives to rise through the ranks.
“Usually the most well-prepared individual is the one that’s going to be victorious, and one thing that I pride myself on is preparation,” Gonzales told this writer in an interview just prior to the Tyson bout.
As I spoke with Jeff Mayweather on Tuesday evening, he confirmed that Gonzales is indeed well prepared for his upcoming fight.
