In this MUST read Boxingtalk exclusive interview Manny Pacquiao talks about his epic score settling victory over Mexican legend Erik Morales, a rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera and much more.
BT – Manny you just beat one of the greatest mexican fighters of all time, how important is this victory for you to bring this victory back to all of the people in your home country of The Philippines?
MP – It was very important for me because all of my countrymen were hoping for me to win, everybody supported me and I am proud to come home with this victory.
BT – Manny Erik was doing pretty good against you early on, at what point did you feel like you had him beat this time?
MP – It was the 6th round when I knew I had him this time.
BT – Manny a lot of people would like your thoughts on a rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera, do you want to give him a rematch?
MP – Yes, you know I am a fighter so anytime. I will fight anybody at 130 lbs.
BT – Manny you only weigh 130 lbs, and at only 130 lbs you were able to bring an entire nation to a halt when you fought Erik Morales. Manny how does that make you feel to have the attention of the entire nation of The Philippines ?
MP – Well I feel very happy because everybody stopped to watch my fight. I would like to thank God for this victory, and I would like to thank my fans all across the world. I would like to thank my countrymen in The Philippines, I am coming home now.
BT – Manny Tim Austin has gone on the record and said that he would like to fight you in Manila Philippines, right in your back yard. Is Tim Austin someone you would give an opportunity to fight?
MP – Well Brad, as I said before I am a fighter, and I will fight anybody at 130lbs, so if it makes sense I will fight him.
BT – Manny you told everybody that when you put on the Reyes gloves that it will make a difference, and you were right. What are your thoughts on how much of a difference the Reyes gloves had on your performance?
MP – I was very happy to have the Reyes gloves, I wanted to prove to everyone that I would beat him, and that I am the best, and I did that.
BT – Manny everyone in The Philippines wants to know when you will be coming home, talk to your fans.
MP – I will come home Wednesday, and I would like to thanks all of my fans in The Philippines. I also want to include all of the other fans around the world, the Mexican fans, and the American fans, all of the boxing fans. Thank you very much!
BT – Manny Erik Morales went into a local hospital after the fight, is there anything you would like to say directly to Erik Morales?
MP – Well I want to say that Erik Morales is a good boxer, and he’s a good guy, and I hope he is ok. Erik is very good for our sport of boxing, and I hope he is ok.
