It’s Christmas time, the day we as Christians celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. For all of my friends who believe in another God, or no God at all, I wish each of you a safe and healthy new year.
Christmas time is a time when we should all rejoice and celebrate and to be thankful for the blessings that we have. Blessings come in all shapes and sizes. A blessing can be a new baby that is born or it can be a clean bill of health from the doctor. It can also be something as simple as someone holding the door open for you.
As boxing fans, one of the biggest blessings brought to us in a long time is none other than Manny Pacquiao. The Pacman is like a Christmas gift brought by Santa Claus, and every Christmas he’s under the Christmas tree. Pacquiao has brought boxing exciting fights, and he has raised the bar over and over again. A generous man, Pacquiao time and time again has given back to the less fortunate.
On May 7th he will once again get back into the ring. He will face future hall of fame former multiple world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley. No this fight won’t have the buildup that a Floyd Mayweather fight would have had, but nonetheless, I think it will be more competitive than people think it will be. It doesn’t really matter who Manny fights, he still brings excitement and joy to his millions of fans around the world.
Even if you’re not a Pacquiao fan, one should still be thankful that he’s in boxing. Pacquiao has certainly jump-started a sport that was in dire need of a jump. It’s been a long time since the sport has had a figure that ends up on late night talk shows. Manny has done just that, and his popularity has exploded in America because of it. Pacquiao has become a boxing household name throughout America, and all over the Philippines. His good character generous heart has also been key to his popularity.
People like a feel good story and Pacquiao is certainly that. A kid born into poverty who once sold cigarettes that has risen to financial freedom, and an elected Congressman. Truly an amazing life, and one that will be written for the history books. 8 world title later, the man from General Santos City has not yet finished his life story. One day when he finally wraps it up, and hangs up the gloves, you can expect a motion picture about him that will grace the theater screens around the world. Thank you Santa, thank you God, and thank you Manny Pacquiao for making the sport of boxing a better sport for all.
