Mexican boxing promoter Fernando Beltran is busy trying to negotiate Julio Cesar Chavez Junior’s next fight in the midst of the Holiday season.
Though negotiations are not finalized, Beltran confirmed to the Examiner that a fight is being planned between Chavez Junior and the German Sebastian Zbik.
“The fight is being negotiated,” said Beltran, “but we are not in a position to confirm a date or if it will be broadcast in the United States.”
Chavez Junior (41-0-1, 30 KOs) cancelled a December pay per view fight in Anaheim, California due to flu like symptoms and was last seen defeating John Duddy by decision in June.
Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs), the World Boxing Council’s interim middleweight champion, was rumored to fight the man many consider to be 2010 Fighter of the Year, Sergio Martinez, until American boxing broadcast giant HBO nixed the German as an opponent for the televised bout.
Written reports indicated that Chavez Junior would like for trainer Freddie Roach to relocate from his Hollywood, California gym to the Temoaya mountains in Mexico for the fight. There has been no word by Roach if he would be able, or willing to travel to Mexico and train Chavez Junior.
