WBC No.1 contender and the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation minimum-weight champion Rodel Mayol leaves Japan for Mexico today for his Jan. 28 WBC eliminator bout in Cancun, Mexico.
Mayol, who has been bypassed several times for the belt ,will get his chance to challenge the Japan-based Thai champion Eagle Kyowa if he could dispatch Mexican No.2-ranked Lorenzo Trejo in their 12-round elimination bout, in one of Mexico’s biggest boxing event of the year, “The Night of Champions” card.
Mayol already accomplished a total of 108 rounds of sparring in Japan and his trainer Brix Flores is confident that they could get the long awaited shot for the world title, once they dispatch overwhelmingly the Mexican fighter.
“Of course we knew what the consequences are if we’re going to lose this fight.
That is why we are aiming to win this fight convincingly since we are fighting in Mexico,” said Flores.
