With the countdown to 2011 looming large, just a fortnight away, Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. will be more than ready to bid adieu to what has not been a banner 2010.;
For example, Mayweather got “ratted out” Thursday by, appropriately enough,a casino rent-a-cop who knew there was a warrant out for 33 year old boxing superstar in connection with a misdemeanor assault case based on a complaint by a private residential security guy.
I never knew there was such solidarity in the security cop community.
Instead of playing poker, the 21 year old complainant named Shayne Smith told LV Metro Police, Mayweather jabbed his face and caused discoloration and pain when the two got into a verbal beef caused by the fighter’s anger that two motor vehicles were ticketed for improper parking in the Southern Highland development on Nov. 15.
I know that getting arrested is a Mayweather family tradition but I didn’t know that Floyd’s “home for the holidays” theme meant handcuffs and going to Central Booking. I wonder if Mayweather, who does get a free meals and a free bed while being a guest of the county, orders off the jail “halal” menu. (I wonder if FMJ opts for the “halal” menu choices in the hoosegow.)

There’s also no charge for the wonderul, slammer “Kool Aid” that comes with the soggy sandwiches.
From what I hear, the Kool Aid in Jonestown was a lot less diluted.
The room service is really terrible also but that’s another story.
“Money May” spent nearly 12 rounds in the pokey and was released for a Tuesday court date in Clark County regarding the Nov. 15 parking brouhaha.
You might say that Smith “fingered” Mayweather after, he alleges, Mayweather “fingered him.
This just in: the male “Meter Maid” reports that Manny Pacquiao’s jab is a lot faster than the turning 34 in February Mayweather’s lead hand is.
You don’t think Mayweather had a lousy year?
When you log more arrests (two and counting) than fights, then it’s a bad year.
Meanwhile, I understand Las Vegas police are on the hunt right now for the heavyset goons who laughingly call themselves L’il Floyd’s big, badass bodyguards.
Seriously, what does Floyd pay these burly lads for if not to keep him out of silly peccadilloes like the one with the security copper?
I say bring criminal charges against the Mayweather protective staff for impersonating real celebrity bodyguards and throw in some civil fraud charges as well, like taking the money of “Money May” under false pretenses.
News Flash No. 2: The Audubon Society has rejected Mayweather’s membership application, stating that while the ornithological group “loves all birds we do make a singular exception for common jailbirds.”
Jail, court, jail, court, jail, court…I don’t want to say the Mayweather saga is stuck in “Groundhog Day” mode but I am seeing a certain amount of reptitive conduct.
Despite it all, I still guarantee you that Mayweather is not going to prison for any extended stay.
The new case is rather minscule in comparsion to the Sept. 9 Josie Harris “Baby Mama Drama” incident and longtime Las Vegas lawyer Marc Risman, who has been involved in boxing matters and in some criminal cases, told me last week that he sees Mayweather windup with a dispostion which include a fine and a domestic violence diversion program.
(Risman, a lawyer for Larry Holmes and many other boxers and entertainment figures in 31 years of practice in Las Vegas, once worked in the Salt Lake City’s prosecutor’s office. See feature story on the respected attorney (copyright Las Vegas Review Journal and Risman Law Firm website.)
That’s right, Mayweather will have to go to classes to learn that you can’t thump women the way you might like to strike like, let’s say, Pacman.
But he’s not headed up to Lovelock to become a bunk mate of OJ Simpson or any other locked in felons.
Of course still on the Vegas criminal docket is the more serious assault charges involving female boxer Melissa “Guard Your Grill” St. Vil and Uncle Roger, the ex-world champion who trains L’il Floyd.
“Guard Your Grill?” That’s one lesson the security guard needs to learn, I’d say.
Oh, yeah there’s more.
Maybe the most serious trial facing Floyd is one in which he figures to be a witness rather than a defendant.
One of his “associates” (I think this means bodyguard-goons) is charged with firing shots into the trunk of a car outside of a roller skating rink.
The accuser in that case is a longtime Floyd acquaintance and briefly an employee of the boxer.
This guy claims Floyd threatened him at the rink because he sent an “I hope you lose your next fight” type text message.
That caused a gue injury to sensitive guy Floyd. a large bruise on his self inflated ego.
This same gentleman told Vegas cops a few weeks ago that Mayweather tried to run him and his car off the road.
Last word I heard from the Mayweather News Bureau, also known as as the LV Metro Police public information office, was that those allegations might be bound for File 13, meaning the wastebasket as prosecutors have yet to move forward on that matter.
If Mayweather has another “banner year” in 2011, one like his miserable 2010, he will taking his prized undefeated record to a facility where there is no PPV TV, no strippers and throwing $100 bills around, real or fake, is strictly forbidden.
But, looking on the bright side, Mayweather can’t box forever and he could learn a useful trade in a longterm lockup facility. Floyd Mayweather, undefeated champion of the prize ring and a master at crafting Nevada state license plate.
That would be a sorry end for a guy whose athletic performance has included some staggering works of genius.
