IN THE national jubilation over the victory of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao over Mexican pugilist Erik Morales, in what could be considered Pacman’s most memorable fight in his boxing career, the country seemed to have forgotten a major feat by another Filipino boxer.
Philippine super featherweight champion, Jimrex Jaca, a southpaw from Sibulan, Negros Oriental, knocked out Geronimo Hernandez in just two minutes and 43 seconds of the first round.
The Jaca-Hernandez battle was one of 3 undercard fights prior to the main bout – the Pacquiao-Morales fight.
Jaca, like Pacquiao, gave a noteworthy fight because he managed to defeat his opponent just at the early minutes of the first round.
While we celebrate the Pacman’s win, the government and all Filipinos should also recognize Jaca. In Pacquiao’s homecoming, which is expected to be one rousing welcome for the Filipino boxing great, we hope we can also see Jaca alongside the Pacman.
Jaca did his best also and fought to bring honor to the country.
