Hollywood, California – In an exclusive telephone interview today, James Williams, the remarkably soft-spoken Texas-based boxing analyst believes that even with the combination of Freddie Roach
and Manny Pacquiao’s
intelligence, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. could still emerge as victorious at the end of the day.
“I don’t think Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will find Manny Pacquiao difficult to pin down,” says Williams, a gymnast, who has been humbly training boxers and mixed martial artists since 1996. “Pacquiao is hittable even by a slow and less intelligent fighters such as Antonio Margarito.”
“So far, I think Roach cannot really do much about Pacquiao other than just working so hard on him who is already exceptionally gifted before he met the Wild Card trainer,” Williams adds.
Williams thinks that “if Freddie Roach is really a gifted trainer in making a fighter become as great as Pacquiao, then he could have make many boxers in his stable become great champions like Pacquiao”.
Asked if he has known Roach personally, Williams says he “met him several times whenever there’s a media day for boxing matches”. But he denies of having known him personally.
“I think Mayweather, Jr. is a better chess grandmaster than Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquaio combined,” he smiles.
Roach, however, pointed out that Pacquiao has all the leverage in the possible match up because of his boxing style, speed and power, which he thinks Mayweather has less to answer Pacquiao’s constant onslaughts.
Meanwhile, report has it Pacquiao would not ry to force a fight with Mayweather and would rather wait for a challenge from Mayweather before going into formal talks for their fight.
However, Roach admits that they would be engaged in very tough negotiations with Mayweather because the American boxer believes he is the attraction and deserves more money.
