IBO bantamweight champion Vic Darchinyan (35-2-1, 27 KOs) is confident on defeating Mexican Abner Mares (20-0-1, 13 KOs) when they clash over twelve rounds at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday in the SHOWTIME bantamweight tournament. Also appearing will be IBF bantamweight champion Yonnhy Perez (20-0-1, 14 KOs) against former IBF champion Joseph Agbeko (27-2, 22 KOs) over twelve rounds.
Darchinyan is favored to defeat Mares by betting agencies but could be in for the toughest fight of his career as the American based Mexican always comes to fight. The best performance on his record was a twelve round draw against Yonnhy Perez in an IBF title bout in 2010.
Darchinyan?s best wins were over Cristian Mijares who he stopped in nine rounds back in 2008 and an eleven round stoppage of Jorge Arce in 2009.
Darchinyan, 34 years, is promoted by Gary Shaw. Mares, 25 years is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
Darchinyan said, ?I?m more controlled and ready for Mares. I?ve fought 14 world title fights. He?s fought in one. I?m going to out-school him badly and prove to the whole world that I?m too good for anyone in this division.?
Abner Mares said, ?The four-man tournament is great. There?s no ducking any fighters. You?re fighting the best. You don?t pick fighters in a tournament. This is what people want. I?m here for the fans.?
Meanwhile, Yonnhy Perez is confident in beating Joseph Agbeko. Perez said, ?This is going to be a great war just like the first one was. I know how good of a fighter Agbeko is, I saw and felt him in the ring.?
