Maurice Byarm Date of Interview: 12-6-10 Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm (9-0, 6 KOs) is determined to do his part to bring back the division’s popularity.
Byarm will take on Winston Thorpe (3-0-1, 2 KOs) on Saturday, December 11. The match between the two unbeaten men will be the featured main event of “Season’s Beatings”. The event will be held at the Pikesville Armory in Baltimore, Maryland. LS: Hey Maurice, how are you doing this evening?
MB: Not bad at all, man. Not bad. How are you doing?
LS: I’m doing good, thank you. You have a big fight coming up on December 11th. How’s training going for the fight?
MB: We’re doing good, man. Everything’s been coming off just the way we expected it. Sparring’s been great. My timing is on. My running’s been great. You know, I can’t complain in no areas about getting ready for this fight at all. Whatever kind of adjustments I have to make inside the fight, I’m willing to make them, you know what I mean? Whatever I have to do, I’ll do it in there.
LS: Right now, everybody is looking for exciting heavyweight fighters to come up and take the place of some of the great heavyweights we’ve had in the past. What do you have to offer to the heavyweight division?
MB: The heavyweight division, at one point, was the most coveted division. Now, it’s the least talked about division around the world, except for maybe in Germany. What do I have to offer? All I can do is give it a hundred and twenty seven percent, and hopefully it’ll show around the world what the heavyweight division is about. You know, everybody loved the heavyweight division because knockouts were always a big factor. Now you don’t see many knockouts at all. When I go out there, I always swing for a homerun. That’s what they can expect out of me.
