Filipino bantamweight sensation Nonito Donaire bloodied the face of Volodymyr Sydorenko over three rounds before finishing off his Ukranian foe in the fourth round to send a message across the boxing world that Philippine boxing is not just all Manny Pacquiao.
Displaying an array of powerful punches and combinations, Donaire sent Sydorenko to the canvass three times on three different punches.
In the first round, Donaire set up the Ukranian with a left uppercut for an overhand right that sent Sydorenko crashing to the canvass with 13 seconds left in the round.
The bell mercifully saved his opponent from being kncked out cold in the opening round.
The second knockdown occurred in the third when he countered with a powerful left hook that again sent Sydorenko on the seat of his pants.
By then the face of the Ukranian was already a bloody mess.
The end finally came with a series of combination capped with a thundering right straight that drove Sydorenko back and down on his knees.
The referee waived off the fight to give Donaire a technical knockout (TKO) win.
Fighting more comfortably at the bantamweight division, Donaire showed a lot of bounce entering the ring. He towered over his Ukranian foe and was using the whole length of the ring to baffle his outclassed and out-of-class opponent.
Sydorenko was hapless as he cannot find an anti-dote Donaire?s two fisted poisonous attacks.
The Filipino improved his record to 25 wins and one loss, with 17 of his wins coming via knockouts.
With the sensational win, Donaire locked himself a date with Fernando Montiel of Mexico on February 19 for the latter?s World Boxing Council (WBO) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight crowns.
Donarie has been looking for big-money fights after he shocked Armenian with a fifth round devastating knockout victory to win the International Boxing Federation flyweight crown.
Since then, Donaire has moved up in weight and has given up his flyweight title.
He has been looking for a title fight in the bantamweight class that has eluded him.
In February next year, he will get his wish to join Manny Pacquiao, brothers Gerry and Dodie Boy Pe?alosa and Luisito Espinosa as the only multiple division title holders.
Pacquiao of course leads the pack as he recently established his record eight titles in eight different weight classes.
At 27 years old, Donaire has a shot of getting half the record of Pacquiao.
Donaire himself said he wants to eventually settle at 130 pounds (lightweight) where another Filipino boxing great reigned supreme for over seven years ? the great Flash Elorde from whom Donaire got his moniker as The Filipino Flash.
