Juan Manuel Marquez’s chance at official redemption against Manny Pacquiao is slowly slipping into the land of What Could Have Been.
Promoter Oscar De La Hoya can belly ache all he wants about his firm’s poor relationship with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions and how their conflict is keeping Pacquiao – Marquez III from happening, but the writing is on the wall.
Pacquiao is likely to end up fighting welterweight re-tread Shane Mosley and Marquez will have to find a new adversary for 2011.
Every week Marquez speaks on his broadcast pulpit, ESPN Deportes Golpe a Golpe. The Mexican warriors obsession with Pacquiao is always on the agenda for the show.
This past Saturday, Marquez questioned the reasoning behind Arum and Pacquiao placing other fighters ahead of him and gave a clear reason for their faulty logic.
“Arum and Pacquiao’s comments are illogical,” said Marquez. “They are saying that for their possible opponents Mayweather is number one, Mosley is number two, Berto is number three, and I’m number four. That does not bother me, because I can see I’m a nail stuck in their shoe and I won the first two fights. Their avoinding me for a third fight.”
Mr. Marquez’s status within boxing is that of a true legend, but one has to question, are Arum and Pacquiao stuck on Marquez, or is Marquez stuck on his let downs against Pacquiao?”
