Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pulled out of his scheduled bout against Pawel Wolak Saturday in Anaheim, Calif., because of flu-like symptoms. The event will still go on.
That means both original fighters in the main pay-per-view event at the Honda Center are no longer fighting. Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs), from Poland, replaced Mexican Alfonso Gomez, who pulled out last week because of an injury. Jose Pinzon (18-1-1, 12 KOs) of Mexico is expected to be Wolak’s opponent in a 10-round light middleweight bout.
The co-feature, a 12-round bantamweight match between Filipino former world champion Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) and former bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs) of Ukraine, will become the main event.
Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KOs) came down with the flu last Wednesday, and by Monday had felt good enough to work out. But Tuesday he had a 103-degree temperature.
