Denis Douglin Date of Interview: 11-19-10 earning him the nickname, “Mama’s Boy”. However, at 11-0 with 7 KOs, this is one mama’s boy that you don’t want to mess with. Denis is an intelligent, pleasant and enthusiastic young man with an exciting fight style. Amazingly, he manages to find time to train and box, while working and attending college.
LS: How are you doing?
DD: I’m doing good.
LS: I know you have 2 possible fights coming up.
DD: Yes sir!
LS: You have one tentatively scheduled for December 3rd, and another for December 17th. Is it possible that you may end up fighting on both nights?
DD: Yes sir. That’s what the plan is. Hopefully, that can get done.
LS: You’re really staying busy. I wish some of the top pros would stay a little busier, you know?
DD: (Laughs) Yes, definitely.
LS: Do you have any idea at this point who your opponents may be?
DD: I actually have no idea right now, but we’re in the process right now of getting opponents. I’m not really worried about it. I’m ready for whoever it is, so I’ll just keep working.
LS: How did you get into boxing, and how did you end up with your mother as your trainer?
DD: Well, she was the person who actually got me into boxing. What happened was; when I was younger I got into a street fight. I didn’t do so well, and she wanted me to start boxing just as a form of self-defense. She was already boxing in the gym. My family grew up in the gym. I have uncles that box, cousins that box… So she was kind of a tomboy. She brought me in to show me how to fight, and it pretty much grew from there. I started training with my uncle at first, but she actually started showing me different things. I wasn’t comfortable with her training me at first because she was a female, but I started realizing that I was learning more from her than anyone else, and I wanted her to be my trainer.
