MANILA, Philippines?Following his fresh victory over Mexican Antonio Margarito that gave him his eighth title, Saranggani Representative Manny Pacquiao returned to work on Monday amid a rousing welcome by his colleagues and employees of the House of Representatives.
Pacquiao arrived in the chamber at around 11 a.m. and stayed in his office most of the time, attending to guests and some paper work, and constantly granting media interviews.
He is expected to return to the session hall at 3 p.m. to receive his second Congressional Medal of Distinction. He is also expected to deliver a privilege speech.
In the evening, he will attend a dinner hosted for him by congressmen and a party that will have a live band so he could sing.
?I?m overwhelmed I am back, there are many things to attend to here,? he told reporters.
The boxing champion said he would continue to work for the completion of his dream projects for his district like the provincial hospital, additional classrooms, and a mini-gym.
He said he will also sponsor livelihood programs to shore up employment in his impoverished district.
Pacquiao called anew for unity among leaders and his countrymen.
?We should unite to achieve the needed change,? he said in Filipino.
