If you saw the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito, then you saw the primed legend take down the bigger guy once again. Manny Pacquiao chewed up another former world champion, another bigger opponent, and now we all wait to see what is next.
Of course most boxing fans still would like to see Floyd Mayweather Jr step up and take on Pacquiao once and for all. Until he does it, he will be considered the number 2 pound for pound fighter, and Manny will remain on top of the mountain all by himself. Pacquiao of course would love to make up to 50 million dollars, but honestly? He has made enough money to last a few lifetimes and does not need Floyd Mayweather at this point.
Pacquiao is the cash cow now, and the well over 1 million PPV buys proves that. Mayweather needs Pacquiao a whole lot more than Pacquiao needs Mayweather. With that said, both guys need each other in order to cash in on the likes of 50 million dollars each.
A Mosley Vs. Pacquiao fight does not interest the fans at all. A fight between Pacquiao and Andre Berto would make a little more sense because Berto is younger than Mosley and well within his prime. With that said, Berto in most experts opinions is not ready to take on the likes of Manny Pacquiao, not yet, maybe not ever.
There is still a chance that the big fight with Mayweather can happen. There are some bumpy roads to travel in order to get there, but it’s possible. The odds of the fight happening go up if Don King and Bob Arum work it out. Personally, this writer doubts the fight will happen as long as Golden Boy is involved. That’s another article.
I was in Jackson, MS last night covering the Strikeforce Challengers card. In a convention center filled with MMA fighters and fans, there were plenty talking about Manny Pacquiao. I spoke to Matt Lord, an MMA fighter who trains out of Knockout Fitness Center. Lord and a few of his team members were all talking about the fight between Margarito and Pacquiao, then began to question this writer on Mayweather. The MMA world is very interested in the fight, and all hope that Mayweather will finally step up.
The only option that makes money sense for both guys, and that will ignite the sport of boxing is Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs. Manny Pacquiao.
