ANAHEIM, California – Nonito Donaire, Jr., who has taken the shot to follow the critical path of boxing great, Manny Pacquiao, may have a less treacherous fight against Volodymyr Sydorenko of
Kiev, Ukraine for the interim WBA World bantamweight title on December 4, 2010 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Boasting a record of 22 wins (KO 7) with two losses inside of his last three fights, and two draws, Sydorenko, may face an uphill battle against the quicker and younger knockout artist from Talibon, Bohol, Philippines, Nonito Donaire, Jr., the current interim WBA World super flyweight champion.
Donaire, 28, who has not had any difficult opponent since his last encounter with the infamous Vic Darchinyan in 2007, will have a much easier job on fight night than unwisely taking on Anselmo Moreno, the current WBA World Bantamweight titlist who has a record of 30 wins (KO 10) +1 loss (KO 0) + 1 draw and a knockout show of 31.25% versus 26.92% of Sydorenko who is ranked No. 14 in the bantamweight division. Donaire, Jr. boasts a record of 24 wins (KO 16) + 1 loss(KO 0) + 0 draw, with 64% knockouts.
Needless to say, Moreno, a supposed-to-be much better prospect for Donaire, Jr., is rated No. 1 in Panama and ranked No. 6 in the world in the same division. He is 25 years old humbly 5’8″ while Sydorenko is 34 years old and boasting only 5’4″ to seemingly 5’3″, in height. On the other hand, Donaire, The Filipino Flash, stands 5′ 6″.
Meanwhile, Sydorenko is a former Olympian and a former WBA Bantamweight Champion from February 26, 2005 until he lost the same title to the current title holder Anselmo Moreno on May 3, 2008 via a unanimous decision. He won the Flyweight Bronze Medal for Ukraine at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, defeating Daniel Ponce de Leon (Mexico), Omar Andres Narvaez (Argentina), Andrzej Rzany (Poland) but losing to Lost to Wijan Ponlid (Thailand).
Sydorenko has great amateur record, to wit: 1998 European Championships Gold Medalist, 2000 European Championships Gold Medalist and 2001 World Championships Silver Medalist.
