A RESOLUTION was passed by the Mandaue City Council asking the Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) to include boxing as a physical education (PE) subject.
But boxing will be an elective, not a required subject, said Councilor Beethoven Andaya, who authored the resolution to encourage students to take up boxing and become the next Manny Pacquiao.
The resolution was filed following Pacquaio’s Nov. 13 triumph where he won his eighth world title with a points victory over Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito.
The resolution also congratulated Pacman for his win over Margarito.
Mayor Jonas Cortes told reporters that he admired Pacquaio for being considerate to Margarito, whose face was battered in the fight.
