MANILA, Philippines ? At least six resolutions have been filed at the Senate this week, commending the victory of world-boxing champion and now Saranggani Representative Manny Pacquiao over Mexican Antonio Margarito.
The resolutions were filed separately by Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, Senators Manny Villar, Francis ?Kiko? Pangilinan, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Ramon ?Bong? Revilla Jr., and Loren Legarda.
Senate Resolution 280 filed by Pangilinan seeks to honor Pacquiao as the ?greatest Filipino athlete and best fighter in the world? for his achievement as the first boxer to win 10 world titles in eight different weight divisions.
?Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao brought pride and honor to the Philippines by breaking world records and becoming the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions,? said the resolution.
And despite the ?tremendous recognition, success and achievements? he has earned, Pacquiao has remained humble, compassionate, prayerful and God-fearing, according to the resolution.
?Manny was able to unite a divided nation though his prayerful life and silent endurance of the sacrifices he made,? it further said.
Enrile’s resolution said the ?magnanimous victory? of Pacquiao over Margarito ?brought yet again another reason for the Philippines to be proud, to unite and to celebrate as one nation the Filipino athlete’s spirit and sportsmanship?
Thus, this outstanding performance of Pacquiao, the resolution said, ?deserves to be commended for the honor and recognition he has brought to our country.?
