A great month of boxing action continues this coming Saturday as Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Mart?nez defends his title against 3-Time World Champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams. The fight is a rematch of their of their December 5, 2009 slugfest which resulted in a Williams win by majority decision. Nearly one year later they meet again, but Martinez is determined to make sure he is the clear cut winner this time around.
?In this fight I am going to make sure I have more power in my punches?, Martinez would tell BoxeoMundial during a phone interview this past Saturday night. ?I think that?s what was missing in my first fight. This fight I am going to press more and hit with more power so there are no doubts as to who is the winner.?
Martinez who was crowned middleweight champion this past April when he beat Kelly Pavlik in impressive fashion feels that he has grown accustomed to the weight and will be stronger for this fight than he has been before.
?I feel we have worked very hard to get more comfortable in this category and to add some pounds of muscle to my frame. This is new for me, I?m not very big and I?m still getting comfortable at this weight?, said Martinez.
Martinez who with his good looks and flashy smile could easy pass for a GQ model rather then a boxer carries that confidence and swagger of a fighter who has finally reached the top of the boxing world. However, the Argentinean born fighter who has always shown himself to be a friendly and polite individual, is not cocky but rather just confident in the work he puts in the gym when he is preparing for a fight.
?I always feel confident because I trust in the work and preparation we put in for our fights. I work to strengthen my body, my punches and increase my stamina. You will see this on the 20th.
As for a fight prediction? Maravilla keeps it short and to the point.
?I will knock him out by the 9th. I don?t think it will reach the 9th round.?
