Two classy public statements were made by world championship level boxers on Monday.
And, no surprise, neither of them is named Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr.
It would have shown a smidgen of class plus been a slick p.r. move for the “Money May” to congratulate Manny Pacquiao on his latest smash hit victory.
Mayweather could’ve complimented Megamanny for now attracting nearly 92,728 fans in his March 13 and Nov. 13 bouts at cavernous Cowboys Stadium.
(OK, be technical, it’s under the magic 100,000 mark but that is like filling up the 18,000 MGM Grand Garden Arena nearly five times to capacity.)
SEE ‘MICHAEL MARLEY’S BOLD CALL’ OF APRIL 10, 2010, HOW PACMAN KOS MAYWEATHER.
And Mayweather could’ve recognized the customers raging desire to see Reuctant Floyd match skills, not to mention shoulder rolls and sushi rolls, with Pacman next.
Instead we get nada, zippo, zilch, not even a hateful, confused UStream rant or Mayweather trotting out some Asian ladies who handle his all important manicures and pedicures.
No word on who does his bikini waxing. Oops, low shot by me, my bad.)
The snart and classy guys were world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who took to the dingified BBC Radio airwaves, to bluntly challenge David Hayemaker Haye to step up for a springtime fight with a 50-50 money split “anywhere in the world.”
WBO champion Wladimir and wants to fight Haye first because “Wladimir will kill him”.
Vitali Klitschko told the BBC: “Stop talking. I’m ready to sign any time, let’s make the fight in springtime.”
He continued on BBC Radio 5 live : “No excuses any more, he talks too much, he’s a great talker, but the question is, is he a good fighter or not?
“He’s world champion by talking. Let’s fight. Let’s go.
“Let’s discuss where we would fight. Let’s fight in the United States. I listened to a great proposal for Madison Square Garden. I’m ready to fight in the US, Germany or Great Britain.”
Sitting in a Dallas hospital, prepping for orbital bone surgery Tuesday morning as a result of his Pacquiao thrashing, Margarito issued a thank you to his camp and to the world and a hearty congratulations to winner Pacman.
Klitschko gets it.
Margarito got it in the ring and gets it outside the ring.
But Mr. Mayweather remains clueless.
Maybe the barber shop (see video) buzz will move him into action, I hope so.
Otherwise, he’ll go down in history as Fraud Mayfeather, the self-nominated “all time great” who refused to fight the most popular and most electric fighter of his own era.
He talks like an ATG but walks like a duck and quacks like a duck leading millions of decent, ordinary people of all racescreeds and religions to think, well then, he is a duck.
Let him think he’s a Sugar Ray Leonard because he’ll be one, one who ducked Thomas Hearns, one who ignored Roberto Duran.
Neither VKlit or Margarito will ever fight Mayweather but they could teach him things outside of the ring.
