Usually, Clark said, during this period, there would already be reports of crimes being committed from the different provincial and city police offices in the region.
Because of the Pacquiao fight, the Regional Operations Division did not receive any reports of untoward incidents, she said.
Chief Superintendent Alan La Madrid Purisima, PRO3 director, said he was happy with the “zero” crime situation.
Purisima said that despite the said fight, the PRO3 personnel were placed on alert status because some lawless elements might strike anytime and take advantage of the situation when people were glued to their TV sets.
Police records show that every time Pacquiao fights, there is “zero” crime incident.
Only 1 crime during Pacman bout
In Manila, the Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded minimal criminal activity during Sunday’s bout between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Mexican slugger Antonio Margarito.
As in the previous Pacquaio fights, PNP spokesman Agrimero Cruz said only one domestic crime was recorded in the country’s 13 regions.
“As expected, we experienced another phenomenal minimal crime rate nationwide especially in Metro Manila where only one crime incident was reported,” Cruz noted.
Prior to the match, the National Capital Region Police Office reported a robbery incident where alleged members of Martilyo Gang attacked a jewelry shop in Ongpin, Manila.
“How we wish that we can enjoy minimal crime rate all year round,” Cruz added.
For its part, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also said the match put the country in “peaceful” mode. (Ric Sapnu with reports from Glaiza Jarloc/VR/Sunnex)
