ARLINGTON — He wasn’t around for the boxing main event news conference Wednesday, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attended the official weigh-in for the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight on Friday at Cowboys Stadium.
Jones said he didn’t make an appearance before Friday because he didn’t want to take away from tonight’s event.
“That’s correct. Plus, I want it to be noted that I felt it was better for our club to have the perception that you had your mind on your business, which is the Dallas Cowboys. That’s our business here,” Jones said.
“As much as we’re excited about having Manny here and about having Margarito fight in this stadium and boxing and everything else, I felt that a lower profile this week would serve that well.”
Jones fired head coach Wade Phillips on Monday in the wake of Sunday’s 45-7 loss to Green Bay and replaced him with interim coach Jason Garrett.

Manny Pacquiao weighed in at 144 pounds, 6 ounces. Antonio Margarito weighed 150 pounds.
Jerry Jones was recognized as Man of the Year by the World Boxing Commission.
Close to 1,000 fans attended the weigh-in, which was open to the public, outside the East Plaza at Cowboys Stadium.
