Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza?s initial purpose was to remedy Pacquiao?s shoulder, which has troubled the Pinoy firebomb leading into his preparation for the rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez. Before Ariza?s entry, Pacquiao was subjected to a training regimen that involved too much repetition. He was doing the same drills over and over, which resulted to his body getting used to those movements. However, this has inadvertently made it increasingly tiresome to execute motions that were different from the ones he practiced, as his body was conditioned to carry out only a handful of specific tasks. Just a few weeks after joining the team, Ariza suggested to completely overhaul Pacquiao?s training regimen. Celebrated Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach vested his trust on Ariza and gave the latter the go signal to do what he thought was necessary.
