Featherweight Celestino Caballero (Panama) has been in the hunt for a significant fight within the world of boxing for several years. During the last several months his attention has been focused on Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez.
Though much has been written about a potential clash between the pair since they were super bantamweight stand-outs and Lopez himself has give lip service a fight with Caballero, the Puerto Rican failed to acknowledge the Panamanian as a possible opponent in the after-math of his Saturday night victory over Rafael Marquez.
Caballero who has not hesitated in insulting Lopez by any means necessary over the last year, was once again on the verbal offensive this week. Via a video posted on his website (www.celestinocaballero.com), Caballero questioned Lopez’s warrior spirit.
“Juan Manuel Lopez, your a big chicken,” stated Caballero. “Puerto Rico has no more big warriors.”
Caballero went on to state that current World Boxing Association junior middleweight title holder Miguel Cotto still carried Puerto Rico’s fighting pride, but dismissed Lopez as a “chicken butt”.
It will be interesting to see if Caballero’s continued verbal barbs will entice Lopez into a ring.
