CBS has finally found a locale so foreign even Bob Simon can?t handle it: the sports department.
When TIME magazine profiled Manny Pacquiao last year, I found the effort symbolic of the decline of the editing process in print journalism. Now that CBS?s venerable ?60 Minutes? has done an equally inaccurate job Sunday of profiling Pacquiao, it?s clear that the editing process is not healthy at the highest levels of broadcast journalism, either.
That?s why patrician ?60 Minutes? correspondent Simon, one of the most admired overseas reporters of his generation, gets off to such a horrible start on his Pacquiao segment.
