FORT WORTH, TX – About 1,200 rabid Mexican boxing fans crammed into La Gran Plaza Shopping Mall in Fort Worth, Texas Sunday afternoon for a rock star – like appearance by Antonio Margarito one week before he challenges Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines for the World Boxing Council Super Welterweight (154 lbs.) Championship.
Earlier in the day Margarito was in Dallas to make an appearance at a tamale contest.
Also making an appearance and actually getting a workout in the full-size ring was Dallas’ own Roberto Marroquin, a featherweight with a 16-0 (12 KO’s) record who fights on the televised portion of the card being promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank of Las Vegas and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
A mariachi band serenaded the crowd and Margarito seemed to be excited by the huge enthusiastic turnout.
